About UPHG

Uppsala Patent History Group (UPHG), led by Professor Fredrik Tell, explores the intersections of business, economics, and technology from a historical perspective. Our researchers employ qualitative and quantitative methods as well methods from computational social science and humanities, such as multimodal large language models (MLLM). We also have a long history of working with archival material and digitization to create new and exciting data. With backgrounds in business studies, economics, digital humanities, and history, our researchers examine corporate and organizational change, the economics and history of innovation as well as industrial dynamics and business strategy. The group is hosted at the Department of Business Studies at Uppsala University.​
